On August 19th, Wang Yi, a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Minister of Foreign Affairs, held talks with Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Dun in Beijing on a working visit to China.

During the meeting, Wang Yi expressed that China is willing to deepen cooperation with Thailand in various fields and promote the development of China Laos Thailand connectivity to achieve more visible results. Both sides need to accelerate the construction of the China Thailand Railway and the China Laos Thailand Railway connecting lines, and jointly crack down on cross-border criminal activities such as telecommunications fraud.

Several consulates abroad, including the Chinese Embassy in Brunei and the Chinese Consulate General in Perth, have recently published articles reminding Chinese citizens and overseas Chinese in their territories to prevent telecommunications fraud.

In May of this year, multiple Chinese citizens were lured and smuggled into the Myawady region of Myanmar under the pretext of "high salary employment", and were required to engage in telecommunications fraud activities. At the end of July, Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Chen Hai coordinated with Myanmar's Foreign Minister Dan Sui on combating criminal activities such as telecommunications fraud. Ambassador Chen pointed out that in response to the spread of electronic fraud in the border areas of Myanmar, both China and Myanmar, as well as the three sides of China, Myanmar and Thailand, have launched joint crackdowns and achieved initial results. Nevertheless, electricity fraud activities in Myanmar's border areas, including northern Myanmar, are still rampant, seriously damaging the vital interests of the people of China and Myanmar. Four countries' police cooperate to crack down on gambling fraud groups

Strictly crack down on domestic collaborative criminals in accordance with the law

With the continuous deepening of the crackdown on governance work, there have been some new changes and characteristics in telecommunications network fraud crimes, and the transnational organized characteristics are becoming increasingly evident. Among them, overseas wire fraud criminal groups frequently attract people's attention. In response, the political and legal system has repeatedly stated to the public that it will continue to increase efforts to crack down on and punish overseas wire fraud criminal groups.

At the end of July, Chen Wenqing, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Secretary of the Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission, presided over the plenary meeting of the Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission. The meeting emphasized that we should adhere to systematic governance, legal governance, and source governance, crack down on illegal and criminal activities such as overseas telecommunications network fraud in accordance with the law, crack down on domestic collaborative criminals in accordance with the law, and resolutely safeguard the vital interests of the people.

The crackdown on cross-border electronic fraud crimes is ongoing and expanding. According to reports, from August 15th to 16th, the Chinese Ministry of Public Security, the Thai Police General, the Myanmar Police Headquarters, and the Lao Ministry of Public Security jointly held a special cooperative crackdown on gambling fraud and related crimes such as human trafficking, kidnapping, and illegal detention in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

All parties have decided to jointly establish a comprehensive coordination center for special operations in Chiang Mai, Thailand, and establish joint action points for areas where gambling fraud is rampant. With closer cooperation, more proactive attacks, and more professional actions, we will crack down on telecommunications network fraud and online gambling crimes in this region, and resolutely reverse the high incidence of human trafficking, kidnapping, detention, and other crimes.

According to previous media reports, in March this year, the trilateral meeting on human trafficking, jointly held by the Ministry of Public Security of the People's Republic of China, the National Police of the Republic of Myanmar, and the National Police General of Thailand, was held in Bangkok, Thailand, to jointly combat transnational crimes such as human trafficking and telecommunications fraud.

In June, six suspect of telecommunication fraud were transferred from the Myanmar police to the Chinese police working group at Yangon International Airport and escorted back to China. In response, the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar stated that the six individuals mentioned above were arrested in the joint crackdown on electricity fraud crimes along the Myanmar Thai border between China and Myanmar.
